Working together to prevent and reduce gambling harm
On Friday 16 October 2026, Gambling Harm Support SA (GHS SA) brought together researchers, service providers, people with lived experience and other stakeholders to share insights, research and practical approaches to preventing and reducing gambling harm in South Australia.
The event provided an opportunity to hear early findings from the South Australian Gambling Survey 2025, alongside outcomes from research funded through GHS SA's Strategic Research Agenda, including work exploring gambling behaviours and innovative approaches to support.
Importantly, people with lived experience and funded support services shared valuable perspectives on how their experiences can inform more effective responses. Warntapinthi Wellbeing Aboriginal Corporation highlighted the importance of culturally informed support and early intervention.
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation also shared learnings from Here for the Game, a DHS-supported initiative working with community sporting clubs to challenge the normalisation of gambling and create environments where sport and gambling don't have to go hand in hand.
Progress comes from working together, sharing what we've learned and using those insights to make a real difference in preventing gambling harm. Watch this space during Gambling Harm Awareness Week!
